Skills for Health, E-learning for Healthcare and the Department of Health are pleased to announce the release of a new Equality and Diversity course.
A better understanding of the impact of decisions and actions on different people means healthcare staff can respond more effectively, resulting in high quality care for everyone and leading to the more efficient use of resources. The aim is to have a healthcare service that is delivered with dignity and respect by staff who are better informed and have a great awareness of the needs of individuals, in a working environment that meets the needs of our diverse workforce.
Based upon a programme that was originally supported by NHS North West and developed by the E-learning Team at Liverpool Primary Care Trust/Liverpool Community HealthTrust, this course has been updated to reflect the legal considerations of the Equality Act 2010. The collaboration by national e-learning providers, working with service organisations to support a common programme development, has ensured a high quality and cost effective course.
The revision of this course has been well supported with the involvement of a number of Equality Leads from several NHS trusts. The course has also benefitted from the review and guidance by a number of specialist advisory equality organisations. Helen Limbert from The NHS Equality and Diversity Council, Department of Health “This e-learning package is an excellent example of work that will support the NHS in making the Council's vision a reality."
The programme is available through the platforms for the Core Learning Unit, E-learning for health and is also accessible through the National Learning Management System
