Leadership and Management Advisory Service - Update November 2011

We hope that you have already been engaging with the current LMAS programme and encouraging your clients to take advantage of the service and the grant.  Thank you to those of you with whom we have been liaising for the past seven months and we trust that the relationship has been beneficial.

We should like to remind you of the current eligibility criteria, drawing attention (in red) to those that have been changed since the start of the programme:

  • Private SME or Social Enterprise
  • 2 – 249 employees (minimum = beneficiary + full-time equivalent (FTE) employee)
  • Potential to grow:
  1. Established, private SMEs – increase turnover or number of staff by 60% over the next three years (subtle difference – originally 20% “year on year” for three years)
  2. Start-up, private SMEs  – increase turnover to £500,000 over the next three years.
  3. Social Enterprises – increase turnover or number of staff by 30% over the next three years (subtle difference – originally 10% “year on year” for three years)

Beneficiary has to be the key leader, ie owner/MD/CEO for organisations with 9 or less FTE; can be a leader/manager who reports directly into the owner/MD/CEO for organisations with 10+ FTEs (originally – 50+ FTEs for next tier of management to be eligible as a beneficiary)

Acceptable areas for development:

Developing a highly effective personal leadership and management style – including strategic thinking and effective communication.

Creating a joint enterprise culture with the workforce – including developing an innovative, creative and productive culture for the organisation, developing productive working relationships, reducing and managing workplace conflict.

Planning and developing an effective organisation and teams – including recruitment, selection and departure, building and managing effective, creative and innovative teams, conveying vision and objective setting.

Leading and managing employee high performance – including employee motivation and commitment, delivering value, learning and development.

We are very happy to discuss any plans you may have for new L&M provision that could support applicants to the programme or the most efficient processes for your clients to access the service.

We look forward to a strong and mutually beneficial relationship throughout the remainder of the programme.  However, we should also like to remind you that we shall cease our engagement activity by mid February 2012, in order to stop carrying out Diagnostics and Personal Development Plan meetings by the end of February 2012.

Also, as all development activities have to start before 31 March 2012, some of you may want to consider running induction or taster sessions prior to any courses you have running post 31 March in order that your clients might still take advantage of this year’s service and grant.

From April 2012, there will be another LMAS programme in place, about which details will emerge in due course.
